IDRAULICA AMBIENTALE E GEOLOGIAModule PRINCIPI DI IDRAULICA
Academic Year 2024/2025 - Teacher: LUCA CAVALLAROExpected Learning Outcomes
The goal is to teach the fundamentals necessary to solve a wide class of problems involving hydrostatic or moving fluids.
In particular, the course will treat the design and verification of reservoirs, pipelines, natural and artificial channels (pipe-flow and open-channel-flow).
This will enable students to approach problems related to water resource management, the mitigation of hydraulic and hydrogeological risk and the production of electricity from renewable sources
The knowledge acquired will be usable in the design and management of materials and systems aimed at improving the quality of life, in accordance with the SDGs of the 2030 agenda:
- Goal 2 Zero hunger
- Goal 3 Good Health and well-being
- Goal 6 Clean water and sanitation
- Goal 7 Affordable and Clean energy
- Goal 8 Decent work and economic growth
- Goal 9 Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities
- Goal 12 Responsible consumption and production
- Goal 13 Climate action
- Goal 14 Life below water
- Goal 15 Life on land
Course Structure
The course is organized as follows:
-traditional lectures, carried out using a participative approach in order to obatin the maximum involvement of the students;
- practical exercises. Such excercis are supervised in order to be sure that all the students will learn during the classtime how to apply the most important concepts and methods to be used in the field of hydraulics;
- periodic tests, aimed to verify the level of undertanding of the topic of the course and the problem solving capacity of the students;
-field visits at building sites of hydraulic works and/or at the premises of public or privaty bodies involved in the management of water systems (Water Management Companies, Water Authorities, Irrigation Consortia, etc.).
If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote way, the necessary changes can be introduced with respect to what was previously stated, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus.
Information for students with
disabilities and / or SLD
To guarantee equal opportunities and in compliance with the laws in force,
interested students can ask for a personal interview in order to plan any
compensatory and / or dispensatory measures, based on the didactic objectives
and specific needs.
Students can also contact the CInAP (Center for Active and Participatory
Integration - Services for Disabilities and / or SLD) referent professor of
the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Prof. Anna De Angelis.
Students who have obtained recognition of the status of student worker, student athlete, student in difficulty and student with disabilities, pursuant to art. 30 of the University Teaching Regulations and the related regulation (D.R. n. 1598 of 2/5/2018), will be able to take exams in the extraordinary sessions reserved for students outside the course limits and will benefit from specific teaching support activities.

Learning Assessment
Learning Assessment Procedures
During the course, two ongoing tests will be carried out to evaluate the level of knowledge of the topics discussed during the reference period of the ongoing test, the expressive ability and the property of language, the ability to apply knowledge to cases of interest application.
Students who do not pass all the ongoing tests can take the oral exam to evaluate the level of knowledge of all the topics covered in the course, the expressive ability and the property of language, and the ability to apply knowledge to cases of applicative interest, the ability to connect the different themes of the teaching program.
The student's preparation will be evaluated based on the following criteria: learning ability and level of depth of the topics covered, properties of synthesis and exposition, and the student's ability to reason.
The vote follows the following scheme:
Unsuitable
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: Important shortcomings. Significant inaccuracies
Ability to analyze and synthesize: Irrelevant. Frequent generalizations. Inability to synthesize
Use of references: Completely inappropriate
18-20
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: At the threshold level. Obvious imperfections
Analysis and synthesis skills: Just enough skills
Use of references: As appropriate
21-23
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: Routine knowledge Analysis and synthesis skills: Can perform correct analysis and synthesis. Argue logically and consistently.
Using references: Use standard references.
24-26
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: Good knowledge
Analysis and synthesis skills: Has good analysis and synthesis skills. The arguments are expressed consistently.
Using references: Use standard references.
27-29
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: Knowledge more than good
Ability to analyze and synthesize: He has considerable abilities of analysis and synthesis
Use of references: Has explored the topics
30-30L
Knowledge and understanding of the topic: Excellent knowledge
Ability to analyze and synthesize: He has considerable abilities in analysis and synthesis.
Use of references: Important insights.
How to register for an exam session: booking on the university student portal. During the year, eight exam sessions are scheduled according to the academic calendar.
In the periods allowed by the academic calendar, beyond the weekly reception hours, it is possible, by contacting the teacher via e-mail, to arrange further meetings for requests for clarification.
Learning verification can also be carried out electronically, regardless of the conditions.
