Learning Objectives

  • Planning and requalification of the landscape

    Provide the necessary knowledge to build up new or upgrading of those landscapes degraded by a “landscape design” aimed at the construction of “Mediterranean” landscapes.

  • Restoration of degraded areas to green

    Training objectives: Provide the necessary knowledge to restoration of degraded areas in view to establish new “landscape design” in Mediterranean” region. Will analysed the causes of landscape degradation, the biological characteristics of the Mediterranean crops and wild species and the sustainable growing methods and techniques in view to restore degraded areas finalizing their environmental roles. Several degraded areas typologies will be analysed in view to individuate technical solution to rehabilitate them by the choice of the wild species in relation to their functional traits and of the sustainable techniques to use for establishing and for maintaining along the time the new green areas and the landscape design in Mediterranean region.

Detailed Course Content

  • Planning and requalification of the landscape

    Part one: analysis and evaluation of areas of landscape design. Second part: examination of contemporary projects aimed to analyze the methods used for the design and the results obtained in the short and long term, upgrading of the landscape. Part Three: Development of a project whose preparation will capture best practices for the enhancement and rehabilitation of degraded environments..

  • Restoration of degraded areas to green

    Analysis of the characteristics of several typologies of degraded sites and of the influences that some sub-optimal conditions (salt and water stress, soil-water-air pollution and related pollutants, marginal pedo-climatic conditions, etc..) can affect plant performances and floral/crop associations during the time. Deepening on the plant bio-morphological traits of the main wild species diffused in the Mediterranean region and on their floral association and on functional crops of interest for restoring degraded areas with sustainable methods and techniques.

    -Characteristics of the Mediterranean environment: analysis of the potential and limitations;

    -The degraded sites: normative references, the main types (quarries, landfills, etc.);

    -The main stress (drought, salt, etc.) in the Mediterranean environment and the possibilities for action;

    -The choice of species (native, halophytes, tolerant, spice and herbs);

    -The agronomic tools for rehabilitation of degraded sites; plant crops for bioraffineries;

    -Analysis of case studies.
