Elisabetta Nicolosi
Eisabetta Nicolosi is associate professor for the SSD "AGR 03 - General Arboriculture and Tree Crops" at Di3A of the University of Catania.
She received in 1993 the first degree in Agricultural Sciences with votes 110/110 cum laude at the University of Catania; in the same year she achieved the certification of Agronomist. In 1994, winning a scholarship to study abroad, she attended for six months the Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, Florida. In 1998 she received the title of Ph Doctor in “Plant production”.
Head of the Arboriculture and Agricultural Genetics section of Di3A from December 2013 to July 2017.
From November 2018 she is the scientific responsible of Di3A of the University of Catania for the Agrobiodiversity Collections in the University Museum Structures.
Founder member of the University Spin-Off "AgriUniTech s.r.l" of the University of Catania and member of the managment board of the same Spin-Off.
Member of the scientific-organizing committee of the 1st level University Master's Degree in "Viticulture, Oenology and Enomarketing" of the University of Catania.
Member of the Management Board of the Experimental Agricultural Company of the University of Catania for the academic four-year period 2021/2022- 2024/2025.
Member of Commissione paritetica (CPDS) of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Environment for the four-year period 2022-2026.
Academician of the Georgofili Academy, Academician of the Accademia degli Zelanti e dei Dafnici Acireale, Member of the Italian Horticultural Society Member of the International Society for Horticultural Science.
Since 1998 by now she has carried out teaching activities at the University of Catania, holding teachings in the sector she belongs.
The research topics developed during the career mainly concern the following topics: the genetic characterization of different citrus species and cultivars and the study of phylogenetic relationships within the genus Citrus and related genera through the use of molecular markers; the genetic improvement of tree plants in particular for vines and citrus fruits; the recovery and valorisation of germplasm with particular reference to citrus fruits, hazelnuts and vines; the ampelographic, agronomic and molecular characterization of native and relic Sicilian vines; the definition and application of protocols for canopy and soil management in viticulture; the application of sustainable techniques for agronomic management in orchards and olive groves.
She has participated as scientific responsible or component in numerous international and national research projects; her scientific production is documented by numerous publications in international journals.
