The work included the hydrolysis investigation of dietary ß-glucosides by an Aspergillus niger ß-glucosidase isolated from a commercial enzyme preparation.
Jan/Jun 2001 - Postgraduate training in Molecular Biology at Department of Biology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA, with Prof. Asim Esen. The research was focused on cloning and characterization of plant ß-glucosidase cDNAs in Escherichia coli and Pichia pastoris as well as their protein products.
May/Jun 2002 - Postgraduate training in Molecular Biology at Dipartimento di Scienza del Suolo e Nutrizione della Pianta, Firenze, Italy, with Prof. Paolo Nannipieri. The research included the study of soil microrganism diversity using DGGE, Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis and ARDRA, Amplified Ribosomal DNA Restriction Analysis.
Nov 2005 - Visiting of the laboratory of Centre de Microbiologie du Sol et de l’Environnement, INRA - University of Burgundy, Dijon Cedex, France. During the stay a collaboration with Dr. Fabrice Martin-Laurent, concerning the biodegradation of fenhexamid, was settled up.
May 2006 - Collaboration with Dr. Fabrice Martin-Laurent at Centre de Microbiologie du Sol et de l’Environnement, INRA - University of Burgundy, Dijon Cedex, France. The research included the analysis by T-RFLP of the effect of cover crops self reseeding legumes on soil microbial community in three different Sicilian soils.
Scientific activity
Nov 2007 - Member of the jury for examining the PhD thesis of Najoi El Azhari, University of Burgundy, Dijon Cedex, France. Title: Estimation of the degrading genetic potential of soil bacterial communities: a new tool for evaluating and predicting soil contamination by organic micropollutants (i.e. pesticides, PAHs).
Oct 2008 - Appointment of Italian Expert by UNI – Italy in ISO/TC 190/SC 4 “Biological methods” – WG: International Ring Test.
Oct 2012/Feb 2013 - Evaluator at European Commission of research proposals in relation to FP7-SME-2013 Call for Proposals.
Nov 2013 - Partecipation “International ring test ISO/CD 17601 Soil quality - Estimation of abundance of selected microbial gene sequences by quantitative realtime PCR (qPCR) from DNA directly extracted from soil” proposed by AFNOR under the scientific guidance of Dr. Fabrice Martin-Laurent.
