Alessandro D'Emilio

Alessandro D'Emilio graduated with honors in Civil Engineering at the University of Catania in 1993.
Since 1994 he collaborated in research activities with the Institute of Topography and Rural Building of the University of Catania. In 2001 he got the Ph.D. in “Rural Building and Land Management”.
In 1999 he got a grant for six years as a Researcher in "Building and plants for Agriculture".
He was professor by contract for the Academic Years 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06, in the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Palermo running a course on “Rural Building and Land”.
On 18 December 2006 he won a public competition for associate professor and on 27 December 2006 he joined at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania.
On 03 April 2018 he obtained the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor in the Disciplin Area SC 07/C1.
Since the Academic Year 2003-2004 until 2010-11, as professor by contract until 2006 and as associate professor later, he run the course in Computer Science at the degree in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Science and Technology of the University of Catania.
At the same University as Associate Professor he run the following course:
- Building Design and work supervision (52 hours) at the degree in Technology and Planning for the Land and Environment.
- Surveying and representation of the landform (30 hours) at the degree in "Agricultural Science and Technology."
Actually he runs the following courses:
- Territorial infrastructures (63 hours) at the degree in “Land and Landscape Management and Protection”.
- Green rural building (63 hours) at the degree in “Land and Landscape Management and Protection”.
- Agro-industrial buildings (28 hours) in the degree in "Food Science and Technology".
He was a committee member in the PhD programme on "Agricultural Engineering" from 2007 to 2013.
Since 2013 he is a committee member in the PhD programme on " Agricultural, Food And Environmental Science".
He was a member of member of the Scientific Committee of the Consorzio Ricerca Filiera Lattiero-Casearia (CORFILAC), a consortium of research on the dairy chain from 2014 to 2018.
Since 1997 he is a member of the (Italian Association of Agricultural Engeneer). He is also a member of the EurAgEng (European Society of Agricultural Engineering).
Since November 2022 he is President of the Council of the Degree Course in "Land and landscape planning and environmental sustainability".
He had a leading role in the following research project:
- Scientific responsible for the protocol agreement signed on September 30, 2021 between GreenGo s.r.l. Catania and the University of Catania, through the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, concerning the study of microclimatic conditions under an agrivoltaic plant.
- Leader of the research unit on “Dairy houses: building solutions and plant engineering improvements for animal welfare and production in hot climate” in Research Project of National Interest PRIN 2007, nationally coordinated by Prof. P. Zappavigna of the University of Bologna;
- Leader of the University Research Program on "Renewable sources for improving the environmental sustainability of greenhouses."
- Member of the coordination structure of the project LIFE11 NAT / IT / 000232 " Reinstatement of Dune Habitats in the Greenhouse Landscape of the Gulf of Gela for the Protection of Leopoldia Gussonei".
He is author of more than 70 publications on journals and proceedings of national and international conferences.
He was awarded the National Scientific Qualification to be a Full Professor for SC 07/C1 on 03/04/2018.

He is involved in researches related to the microclimate control, the static and functional optimization of livestock buildings, greenhouses and agro-industrial buildings.
