Maria Giordano
Maria Giordano holds a master's degree in Biology (2008) and a Ph.D. in Applaied Biology (2012) from University of Naples Federico II.
In 2013 she moved at the Department of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II, where she collaborated to different research projects. The main activities and responsibilitie for these projects were:
Collection, processing and laboratory analysis of biometric and physiological parameters for the evaluation of the interaction between environmental factors and plant growth;
Biological and integrated management of diseases in fourth range farming systems;
Analytical methods for the determination of nutraceutical characteristics and mineral composition of vegetable matrices through HPLC, ionic chromatography and spectrophotometry;
Study of water and mineral nutrition of tuberous species in hydroponics and analytical determination on vegetable matrices;
Development of green technologies for the production of BIOchemicals for the synthesis and industrial application of Polymeric materials starting from agricultural biomasses obtained through Sustainable cultivation systems in the Campania Region;
Evaluation of variety, seeding and fertilization techniques on morphology and quality of spinach;
Optimisation of the cultivar selection and cultivation protocols in hydroponics in order to maximise plant growth efficiency, thus reducing plant sensitivity to space stressors; analysis of the response of plants to different hydroponic systems, sources of nitrogen and presence/absence of specific symbiotic microbes in the rhyzosphere;
Analysis of the effects of X-rays on tomato plants in various stages of development through growth measures, eco-physiological and morpho-anatomical analys.
Currentily she is researcher (RTD-A) at Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment of University of Catania. Project: ONFOODS-Research and innovation network on food and nutrition Sustainability, Safety and Security- Working On Foods. Spoke4: Food quality and nutrition. PE10 ON FOOD.
Research topics mainly focus on: antioxidant activity; plant biofortification; plant secondary metabolism; plant abiotic stress; biostimulants; sustainable agricolture practices; bioactive compounds; carbon and nitrogen sequestration in soil
