Introduce the course partecipant to the application of the molecular investigation techniques and possible genomic manipulation to be used to control arthropods harmful to agriculture preduction and human health.

Detailed Course Content

General characterization of insects. the insect genome. Genetic manipulation of plants to control harmful insects. Development of insecticide molecules for the control of harmful insects. Pest resistance to insecticides. Arthropods carriers of of phytopatogenic agents. Arthropod carriers of animal parasites. Entomopathogenic microrganisms and their use for the protection of crops. Sterile Insect Technique. Bioinformatic applied to enntomological studies. Semiochemicals. Molecular investigation methods applied in the recognition of species. Laboratory techniques for the study of insects.
